President of Belarus to examine leading-edge technologies introduced by Mogilevkhimvolokno

On September 28 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will pay a working visit to Mogilev oblast. As BelTA was told in the presidential press service, Alexander Lukashenko will get familiar with the concept of technical upgrading of Mogilevkhimvolokno Co. defined for 2008-2014 and will examine fulfilment of his commissions given earlier. Belarus President cracks down on corruption, malfeasance in Border Service

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has demanded that bribery, corruption and official malfeasance in the Border Service should be eradicated and severely suppressed. Alexander Lukashenko gave the order as he appointed Igor Rachkovsky Chairman of the State Border Committee on September 27. The press service of the Belarusian head of state quoted Alexander Lukashenko as saying, the Border Service should be in charge of coordinating border protection efforts of all law enforcement agencies. >>>

Belarusian-Lithuanian trade turnover to exceed $1 billion in 2007

In January-July this year the trade turnover between Belarus and Lithuania reached $900 million and is expected to exceed $1 billion by the end of the year, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Belarus Edminas Bagdonas stated during a meeting with Governor of Mogilev oblast where he is staying on a working visit. Belarus to head Round Timber Group of ISO Technical Committee

Belarus will head the international standardization of round timber in the WG-2 Group “Timber” of the ISO Technical Committee. The decision has been taken at a session of the International Organization for Standardization ISO in Lvov, Ukraine, BelTA has learnt from the press secretary of the Forestry Ministry of Belarus Ruzhena Novitskaya. The ISO organization was founded in 1947. Belarus has been its member since the foundation of the organization. >>>

President promises no economic decline

No economic downturns will be allowed in Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko noted on September 25 when meeting with Russia’s State Duma MP Gennady Seleznev. During the meeting a wide range of issues on the Belarusian-Russian cooperation was discussed, BelTA learnt in the presidential press service. The national exhibition of Belarus in Venezuela is a gateway for the Belarusian goods to the Latin-American market, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of Venezuela to Belarus Americo Diaz Nunez told in an interview with BelTA. Now Belarus and Venezuela have been actively preparing the exhibition in Caracas. “The Venezuelan Embassy to Belarus attaches great importance to this event. We have been working in close cooperation with the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Venezuela’s Ministry for Energy and Oil, the project coordinator in Venezuela,” the diplomat said. >>>

Belarusian team wins World High Speed Telegraphy Championships

Belarus’ team won the 7th World High Speed Telegraphy Championships held in Belgrade (Serbia) on September 20-23. Belarusian sportsmen picked up 42 medals – 21 gold ones, 15 silver and 6 bronze medals and took the 1st place. As always, sportsmen from Mogilev, Minsk and Svetlogorsk were the best ones. Honored Master of Sport of Belarus Andrei Bindasov became a world champion among men. He set a new world record (283 signs a minute). >>>

Minsk oblast wins national harvesting competition

In line with the new criteria to choose winners of the harvesting campaign, the Minsk oblast of Belarus has won the national harvesting competition this year. As Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko noted at the national harvesting festival-fair Dazhynki 2007 in Rechitsa, this year, new criteria to sum up results of the national harvesting competition have been approved. In line with the new criteria, the achievements in total yield are not important now. >>>
