Sergei Sidorsky: Belarusian freight transit via Klaipeda port steadily rising
The transit of Belarusian exports and imports via the Klaipeda port is steadily rising, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky told the press on October 3. In 2006 the transit totalled 4.515 million tonnes, 29.1% up on 2005. In 2006 the transportation of potash fertilisers amounted to 1.627 million tonnes (25.5% up on 2005), petroleum products — 1.245 million tonnes (67.7% up). Over the last few years Belarusian freights accounted for 20-25% of the total freight shipping the Klaipeda seaport handles and around 20% of the freightage of Lithuanian railways. >>>
Belarus and European communities to have talks on exchange of information about transported goods
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has approved the Belarusian Government – European communities’ draft agreement on exchange of the preliminary information about the goods and vehicles transported through the Belarusian border and borders of the member states of the European communities as the basis to hold negotiations, BelTA learnt in the presidential press service. Chairman of the State Customs Committee Alexander Shpilevsky was authorized to hold negotiations related to the draft agreement. >>>
Vadim Popov named Chairman of House of Representatives of Belarusian parliament
On October 2 at the seventh parliamentary session the Belarusian MPs elected Vadim Popov Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus’ National Assembly of the third convocation. Some 107 deputies voted by secret ballots. 94 Belarusian MPs supported the candidate of Vadim Popov and 13 voted against. Five deputies voted yes to the candidate of Sergei Gaidukevich and 102 voted against. Earlier Vadim Popov worked in the House of Representatives of the third convocation as the chairman of the permanent commission for international affairs and links with the CIS member states. >>>
Belarusian delegation takes part in border demarcation seminar in Vilnius
A seminar on border delimitation and demarcation started on October 2 in Vilnius, BelTA learnt in the State Border Committee of Belarus. Attending the seminar are representatives of foreign ministries and border guard agencies of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania and Tajikistan. Within the next three days the participants will exchange experience of border delimitation and get familiar with demarcation of the Belarusian-Lithuanian border on the site. >>>
Prime Minister of Belarus to go on working visit to Lithuania October 3
Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky will make a day trip to Lithuania on October 3. Sergei Sidorsky will take part in the ceremony of opening of the 5th Belarusian national exhibition BelarusEXPO-2007 which will run in Vilnius from October 3 to October 6, BelTA learnt in the Council of Ministers Office. In addition Sergei Sidorsky will meet with his Lithuanian counterpart Gediminas Kirkilas and representatives of Lithuanian business circles. >>>
Belarus’ society Znaniye acquires status of national state public association
The Belarusian society Znaniye has acquired a status of the national state public association. The President of Belarus signed the corresponding decree on October 1, BelTA has learnt from the presidential press service. The status will help the society to interact with the authorities in the education sphere, inform people about achievements in science, education and culture, toughen the responsibility for personnel recruitment, train the staff and strengthen the material and technical basis. >>>
Inflation in Belarus to remain within projected margins, Piotr Prokopovich says
The inflation in Belarus in 2007 will remain within projected margins, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Belarus Piotr Prokopovich told reporters on October 2. In accordance with the main guidelines of the monetary policy of Belarus for 2007 the annual inflation is expected to be at the level of 6% or 8%. Piotr Prokopovich also reported that the refinancing rate in 2008 is expected to range between 7% and 9% depending on the country’s inflation and gold and foreign exchange reserves. >>>
Alexander Lukashenko: Belarus considers UAE to be its main trading partner in Persian Gulf region
Belarus considers the United Arab Emirates to be its main trading partner in the Persian Gulf region, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said on October 1 when meeting with Khaldoon Khalifa al Mubarak, the Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of the Government of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates. “We have exactly determined our strategic ally and partner in the Persian Gulf region. >>>
Belarus doubles exports to China in January-July 2007
The People’s Republic of China considers Belarus as a reliable friend and partner, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Wu Hongbin told BelTA. China celebrates the 58th anniversary of its foundation on October 1, 2007. The Head of the Chinese diplomatic mission underlined that the bilateral relations between the two countries are characterized by stability and smooth development of cooperation based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. >>>
Belarus to have fish museum
A fish museum will appear in Belarus. It will be set up in the zoological garden of Mogilev College of Agriculture and Forestry named after K. P. Orlovsky, Chairman of the Mogilev oblast executive committee Boris Batura reported to President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on September 28. The zoological garden is located near the compound Belarusian Ethnographic Village of the 19th Century in the village of Buinichi of the Mogilev region. >>>
