Minsk to host German exhibition “City and House. New Architecture of Berlin in the 21st century”
A German exhibition “City and House. New Architecture of Berlin in the 21st century” will take place in Minsk on November 16 – December 1. It will be arranged by Berlin architect and reporter Phillip Meuser and the architecture publishing house and exhibition agency POM publishers. As BelTA learnt from the FRG embassy to Belarus, the exhibition will familiarize visitors with the architecture of the German capital. >>>
“Education in China” exhibition to ensure implementation of Belarus-China agreements
An exhibition “Education in China” will help ensure the implementation of the agreements in humanitarian cooperation made during the visit of China’s Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to Belarus, Education Minister Alexander Radkov stated at an opening ceremony of the exposition in the Lyceum of Belarusian State University on November 12. According to the minister, the exhibition will contribute to the strengthening of long-term Belarus-China contacts in education. >>>
UNCTAD praises Belarus’ development pace
Belarus is one of the most rapidly developing CIS states, occupying 57th position in UNCTAD’s Trade and Development Index (TDI). UNCTAD experts singled out the high indicators of economic and social welfare of individuals and the registered growth of foreign trade. The indicators landed Belarus on the 34th position ahead of all the CIS states and several countries in Central Eastern Europe. Representative office of Moscow government opens in Minsk
The Moscow government has opened its representative office in Minsk. Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov has appointed Vladimir Plaksin chief of the representative office, BelTA learnt from the committee for interregional links and national policy of the Moscow government. Earlier Vladimir Plaksin held the post of deputy chairman of the aforementioned committee. The representative office is expected to promote trade-economic, sci-tech and cultural-humanitarian relations between Belarus and Moscow and coordinate the formation of a cultural and business center House of Moscow. >>>
Estonia Drama Theatre to perform on Yanka Kupala stage
The Drama Theatre from Tallinn will appear in the National Yanka Kupala Academic Theatre with a play A Month in the Village by Ivan Turgenev. The visit of the Estonian theatre company is held within the 3rd international theatre festival Panorama held in Minsk on October 26-November 10. Theatre collectives of Belarus and Estonia have been increasing their mutual contacts, Consul General of Belarus to Tallinn Alexander Ostrovsky told BelTA. >>>
Korea would like Belarus to support its candidature as host of 2012 World Expo
Korea has asked Belarus to support its bid to host the 2012 International Exhibition, Speaker of the National Assembly of Korea Lim Chae-jung said during a meeting with Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky. The Speaker praised the level of Belarus’ economic development. In his opinion, a boost to the bilateral relations will be given by the forthcoming opening of an embassy of Korea in Minsk and the first visit of the Belarusian Prime Minister to Korea on November 5-6. >>>
Wages in budget-funded sectors 7.7% up in November
The first-category tariff rate in the organizations funded from the budget and using state subsidies was increased by 7.7% up to Br70 thousand, Gennady Prokhorchik, the head of the main department for labour and wages of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Belarus, said when commenting on Council of Ministers’ resolution #1444 of November 2, 2007. Gennady Prokhorchik noted that an increase in the first-category tariff rate will allow to raise the wages of the employees in the budget-funded sectors by 7. >>>
Vladimir Semashko to meet with China Premier in Minsk November 5
First Vice Premier of Belarus Vladimir Semashko will meet with Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, in Minsk on November 5, BelTA learnt from the Council of Ministers Office. The meeting will take place as part of an official visit of the Chinese Premier to Belarus. Vladimir Semashko and Wen Jiabao are expected to hold a short one-on-one meeting. Belarusian Prime Minister to meet with German businessmen
Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky will meet with a team of German businessmen in Minsk on November 3, BelTA learnt in the Belarusian Government. Over the eight months this year, the bilateral trade turnover totaled $1 billion 774 million, or 18.9% up on the same period 2006. Belarusian, Serbian Justice Ministries to ink cooperation agreement
The Justice Ministries of Belarus and Serbia will sign a cooperation agreement. The papers will be signed when a delegation of the Serbian Justice Ministry led by Justice Minister Dusan Petrovic visits Belarus on November 5-6. Representatives of the Belarusian Justice Ministry told BelTA, the document will be the first Belarusian-Serbian international agreement in the legal sphere. It will create the legal base for promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between the Justice Ministries and will contribute to reinforcing the mutual understanding between lawyers of the two states. >>>
