Belarus, Latvia to optimize tariffs on potassium chloride hauls and trans-shipment rates
By the end of the year Belarus and Latvia are expected to optimize tariffs on potassium chloride hauls to the port of Ventspils and its trans-shipment rates in 2008, BelTA learnt from first secretary for economic issues of the Latvian Embassy to Belarus Dainis Freimanis. According to him, Belarusian Railways, Latvijas dzelzcels and Lithuanian Railways together with the Belarusian exporters are going to continue working for the further optimization of the schemes on the Belarusian export cargo transportation to the Latvian ports. >>>
EurAsEC countries start forming real Customs Union
The Eurasian Economic Community member states have started forming a real Customs Union, Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky said in Minsk on November 15 when meeting with EurAsEC SecGen Tair Mansurov. The meeting was held on the eve of the Moscow session of the EurAsEC Interstate Council of Heads of Government. Welcoming Tair Mansurov as a new EurAsEC Secretary General, Sergei Sidorsky said that “we are glad you are paying your first visit to Belarus”. >>>
Chinese city of Changchun to host Days of Minsk November 20-24
The Days of Minsk will be held in the Chinese city of Changchun on November 20-24, Director General of the Minsk-based department of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nikolai Sakhar told a press conference in Minsk on November 14. This will be a return visit – in 2006 an official delegation of Changchun visited the Belarusian capital. A Belarusian delegation will be composed of top officials of the Minsk City Council, representatives of the business, scientific and cultural circles. >>>
Belarusian State TV and Radio Company to cooperate with General Organisation of Radio and TV of Syria
The National State TV and Radio Company of the Republic of Belarus and the General Organisation of Radio and TV of the Syrian Arab Republic signed a cooperation agreement, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian company. The agreement provides for promoting cooperation in the TV and radio broadcasting spheres. The side agreed to exchange documentary, economic, social, cultural and sports programmes and news. >>>
Minsk to host German exhibition “City and House. New Architecture of Berlin in the 21st century”
A German exhibition “City and House. New Architecture of Berlin in the 21st century” will take place in Minsk on November 16 – December 1. It will be arranged by Berlin architect and reporter Phillip Meuser and the architecture publishing house and exhibition agency POM publishers. As BelTA learnt from the FRG embassy to Belarus, the exhibition will familiarize visitors with the architecture of the German capital. >>>
“Education in China” exhibition to ensure implementation of Belarus-China agreements
An exhibition “Education in China” will help ensure the implementation of the agreements in humanitarian cooperation made during the visit of China’s Prime Minister Wen Jiabao to Belarus, Education Minister Alexander Radkov stated at an opening ceremony of the exposition in the Lyceum of Belarusian State University on November 12. According to the minister, the exhibition will contribute to the strengthening of long-term Belarus-China contacts in education. >>>
UNCTAD praises Belarus’ development pace
Belarus is one of the most rapidly developing CIS states, occupying 57th position in UNCTAD’s Trade and Development Index (TDI). UNCTAD experts singled out the high indicators of economic and social welfare of individuals and the registered growth of foreign trade. The indicators landed Belarus on the 34th position ahead of all the CIS states and several countries in Central Eastern Europe. The facts are presented by UNCTAD’s publication “Developing Countries in International Trade 2007: Trade Development Index”. >>>
Representative office of Moscow government opens in Minsk
The Moscow government has opened its representative office in Minsk. Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov has appointed Vladimir Plaksin chief of the representative office, BelTA learnt from the committee for interregional links and national policy of the Moscow government. Earlier Vladimir Plaksin held the post of deputy chairman of the aforementioned committee. The representative office is expected to promote trade-economic, sci-tech and cultural-humanitarian relations between Belarus and Moscow and coordinate the formation of a cultural and business center House of Moscow. >>>
Estonia Drama Theatre to perform on Yanka Kupala stage
The Drama Theatre from Tallinn will appear in the National Yanka Kupala Academic Theatre with a play A Month in the Village by Ivan Turgenev. The visit of the Estonian theatre company is held within the 3rd international theatre festival Panorama held in Minsk on October 26-November 10. Theatre collectives of Belarus and Estonia have been increasing their mutual contacts, Consul General of Belarus to Tallinn Alexander Ostrovsky told BelTA. >>>
Korea would like Belarus to support its candidature as host of 2012 World Expo
Korea has asked Belarus to support its bid to host the 2012 International Exhibition, Speaker of the National Assembly of Korea Lim Chae-jung said during a meeting with Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky. The Speaker praised the level of Belarus’ economic development. In his opinion, a boost to the bilateral relations will be given by the forthcoming opening of an embassy of Korea in Minsk and the first visit of the Belarusian Prime Minister to Korea on November 5-6. >>>
