New container train to deliver cargo from China to Germany via Belarus
The presentation of a demonstrational international container train Beijing-Hamburg will take place in Brest on January 20. BelTA learnt from Belarusian Railways, it will be the first container train shuttling between China and Germany. Railway authorities of Belarus, Russia, Poland, Germany, China and Mongolia take part in implementing the project. The new train will allow building up transport ties between the countries and the amount of cargoes transported between Asia and Europe. >>>

Cooperation with China is a priority of Belarus’ foreign policy, Defence Minister of Belarus Leonid Maltsev said on January 16 as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Belarus Wu Hongbin, the press service of the Belarusian Defence Ministry told BelTA. “Based on principles of mutual benefit and respect, our relations successfully progress. Victoria Azarenka moves into Australian Open third round

Sweden to intensify cooperation with Belarus
The intention to develop cooperation with Belarus is attested to by a decision of the Government of Sweden to open a full-fledged diplomatic mission in Belarus in 2008 (currently there is only Section Office in Minsk of the Swedish embassy in Moscow). In an interview to BelTA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Kingdom of Sweden Andrei Grinkevich called the decision of Sweden as the most important event in the political dialogue between the two countries in 2007. >>>
Belarus President names 2008 key year for implementing five-year national development programme
2008 will be the key and determining year for implementing the entire five-year programme for the social and economic development of Belarus, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said during the state award ceremony on January 14. “It is a pleasure to start a new year by congratulating the country’s best people,” said the head of state. The opening of the Swedish embassy in Minsk in the second half of 2008 attests to the desire of Sweden to develop all-round cooperation with Belarus, Mr Stefan Eriksson, the head of the Minsk Section Office of the Swedish Embassy in Moscow, told BelTA. Belneftekhim may open representative office in Moldova
On January 14, representatives of Belneftekhim Concern will arrive in Kishinev to discuss the possibilities of opening a representative office of the concern there, BelTA learnt in the Belarusian embassy in Moldova. A decision on expanding the presence of the Belarusian petrochemical industry in the Moldavian market and on improving the strategy for promoting the Belarusian goods was taken during a roundtable meeting held in Kishinev. >>>
Directorate for construction of nuclear power plant is set up in Belarus
Belarus has set up a directorate responsible for construction of the nuclear power plant. In line with resolution #1868 of the Council of Ministers the directorate is subordinate to the Ministry of Energy, BelTA learnt in the Council of Ministers Office. The directorate will act as a customer of design and exploration work conducted for the construction of the nuclear power plant. Adopted in pursuance of presidential decree #565 of November 12, 2007 “On some measures for construction of the nuclear power plant” resolution #1868 introduces amendments to the resolution on the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Belarus. >>>
