Tougher control over gambling industry promised in Belarus

Belarus’ Foreign Ministry: Belarus should boost export of high-tech products

Belarusian-Polish commission to get busy with UPB dispute on 9 March
GRODNO, 4 March (BelTA) – A Belarusian-Polish commission set up to audit the operation of the Union of Poles in Belarus will start working on 9 March, Yelena Bogdan, Deputy President of the Union of Poles in Belarus (UPB), told a press conference on 4 March. “We have been working for four years to create the commission. Belarus to partake in London and Dubai travel exhibitions
MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – In 2010 Belarus will be represented at six international travel exhibitions, BelTA learnt from Valery Boldyrev, Head of the Marketing and Publishing Department of the National Tourism Agency. In 2009 Belarus took part in three international travel exhibitions. Belarus seeks cooperation with Baltic countries in fighting against contraband
MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – Belarus would like to cooperate with the Baltic Sea countries in fight against contraband, Deputy Head of the Belarus State Customs Committee Vasily Dementei stated as he met with a delegation of the Finnish National Board of Customs led by Head of Intelligence Sami Rakshit in Minsk on 2 March, BelTA has learnt. The meeting is being held within the framework of implementation of the intergovernmental agreement between Belarus and Finland on the mutual assistance in customs matters. >>>
Belarus, Russia sign temporary vehicle import/export agreement
MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The Governments of Belarus and the Russian Federation signed an agreement on temporary import and export of transport vehicles, BelTA learnt from the State Customs Committee of Belarus. The agreement came into force on 25 February 2010. The major goal of the intergovernmental agreement on temporary import and export of transport vehicles is to simplify the movement of all kinds of transport vehicles within the Union State territory despite the country they are registered in. >>>
Alexei Grishin of Belarus takes aerials gold in Vancouver
MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ aerial jumper Alexei Grishin brought the first gold to the country at the Winter Olympics 2010 in Vancouver, BelTA informs. Alexei Grishin scored a combined total of 248.41 points in his two jumps (120.58+127.83). This is his second Olympic medal. He won bronze at the Olympics 2002 in Salt Lake City. Lukashenko to meet with Yanukovich in Kyiv
KYIV, 25 February (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is expected to meet with Ukraine’s newly incumbent president Viktor Yanukovich in Kyiv on 25 February. In 2008-2009 Belarus-Ukraine political relations have been developing rather rapidly. The two countries had an intensive bilateral dialogue at the top level in this period. In 2009 alone the presidents of Belarus and Ukraine met four times: in Chernihiv in January, in Gomel in May, at the session of the CIS Heads of State Council in Chisinau in October and in Kyiv in November. >>>

Belarus to partake in UN peacekeeping operations
MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – A session of the UN Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations started at the UN headquarters in New York on 22 February. A Belarusian delegation led by Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council Stanislav Zas takes part in the session, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. Speaking at the session, Stanislav Zas pointed out that although Belarus is actively involved in a variety of the UN activities and is a security donor in the Eurasian region, for some objective reasons it only dispatched civil specialists to take part in the UN field missions. >>>
