Belarus, Poland to open four information and tourist centers in 2010
GRODNO, 6 July (BelTA) – Belarusian-Polish information and tourist centers will be set up in Warsaw, Bialystok, Brest and Grodno by the end of 2010, BelTA learnt from Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism of Belarus Cheslav Shulga who took part in a session of the Belarusian-Polish working group for cooperation in tourism in Grodno.

The working group is expected to design most comfortable conditions to promote tourism business between the two countries, according to Cheslav Shulga.

The working group discussed urgent issues facing the tourism industry – the ways to relax visa requirements and border crossing rules, and the ways to improve the advertising and information support of tourism opportunities in Poland and Belarus.

Poland and Belarus have good tourist products, Cheslav Shulga said. But they have not been given much exposure. For that purpose Belarusian and Polish partners decided to open joint information and tourist centers. “These centers are designed to provide complete information about holiday spots in Belarus and Poland, how to get there and the information about prices,” Cheslav Shulga said. A center in Warsaw will soon be inaugurated. Similar centers will be set up in Bialystok, Grodno and Brest by the end of the year.

The working group also discussed the joint use of tourist resources of the Augustow Canal and Belovezhskaya Pushcha. “Today we see new prospects regarding the Augustow Canal. The Presidential Administration is now considering a project on the country’s first free economic type of tourist type. This project might prove very interesting for investors. Cheslav Shulga expressed hope that Polish investors will get interested in this project too.

The working group includes representatives of travel industry and associations, officials of the consular offices, city and regional administrations. The working group is headed by Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism of Belarus Cheslav Shulga and Deputy Minister of Sport and Tourism of Poland Katarzyna Sobierajska.

The members of the working group went to see the Augustow Canal, the Svyatsk palace and gardens, fortifications of the Grodno fortress. The guests went sightseeing around Grodno and also visited the Ozerny health farm and the Karobchytsy farm and tourist facility.
